Dhubu (Mackeral) - 2011 NATSIAA Awards Finalist Dhubu is our local name for the mackerel fish. The Dhubu is a big game fish and very powerful swimmer. It is one of the best eating and and a prized catch on our island. I caught my first big one from the island jetty when I was 12 years old. It was almost bigger than me and I had a hard time carrying it down the road home. When you catch a mackerel from our jetty, the island talks about it for weeks. Dhubu is the worst fish to catch on a hand line. I have a few scars down my arms from fighting this fish. In my experience the best time to chase Dhubu is when there is a quarter moon and when the sun is high in the sky in the middle of the day. The print depicts the full sun and also best bait fish, whole sardines and garfish and in its stomach area.
