This image of a turtle that is about to descend into the deep ocean after coming up for breath, encompasses the massage through traditional markings of Zugngurrpai – Initiation, the Process of teaching a Kaiin Kaz young man, is the responsibility of his Uncles. This knowledge of sea passed on to a Kaiin Kaz - young man, growing up in the Torres Strait is important in order to be classed as a man in his community, who will be classed as being capable of providing for his family in time to come. The Turtle and Dungal - dugong are integral parts of ceremonial totemic importance to our process of Zugngurrpai – Initiation.
