Details
Puadh (Sweat lip)1 This Fish Puad – Sweet Lip is a common fish caught around the shore-lines of my island home Badu Island. As a child growing up the Puad was one of the main Fish foods we consumed caught on Hand line. Mum taught us kids how to put the bait on properly using fresh squid and when to jig when the fish was on the bite.  Mum would paddle in our clinker dinghy – wooden boat, out to the seaweed areas, out to her fishing spots. Whilst finishing I remember always seeing a few dugongs feeding nearby, today I take my kids out and still see the dugongs swimming up tide feeding and tell the kids about my childhood when I was seeing the same thing. In my image of a Puad I capture these little life experiences, from the past and the little skills we grow up with and then today pass-on down to our young ones. Laurie Nona 2023
