Squid is found in the Torres Strait and around the eastern and southern Australian coastline to Western Australia.
Marlin, the great sailfish of the sea, will readily eat any squid, knucklehead, white or red feathers trolled from a boat at a speed of around 10 knots.
Squid was used to bait marlin for decades and still today marlin regularly feed off squid.
If you are fishing for marlin with squid bait, the moment the hook bites home a marlin fights like fury, making mighty leaps and everything possible to throw it.
The marlin will fight until completely exhausted, when it will lie alongside the boat to await its fate.
